Lombok is not that touristy yet and has an incredibly beautiful nature. There are also various waterfalls. Most are in the north of Lombok. The Tiu Kelep waterfall is the beauty of Lombok. This waterfall is hidden in the jungle. So you first have to make a big hike through forests, climb over rocks and walk through lakes. We take you on our adventure of finding the Tiu Kelep waterfall.
HOW DO YOU GET THERE?
You will find the most beautiful waterfalls in the north of Lombok. The falls are close to the impressive Rinjani volcano. This area is one of the most beautiful places in Lombok. You can choose to spend the night in this area, especially when you are going to climb the Rinjani. We chose to only visit the falls and made it into a beautiful day trip. From Senggigi we went by car in a northerly direction along the coast towards Senaru. It will take approximately 2 hours by car to reach the National Park of the village of Senaru. Renting a scooter is also a good (and cheaper!) option, but you’ll be on the road for a long time.
When you arrive at the entrance you buy a ticket for around 10,000 IDR / € 0.60 cents. Here are some guides present who would like to guide you towards the waterfalls. The paths towards the falls are, however, easy to follow and easy to follow. The second waterfall that is further hidden is easy to find. You can easily follow the path or the tourists. A guide is not necessary.
SENDANG GILE WATERFALL
Are you actually coming for the Tiu Kelep? Then you get the Sendang Gile waterfall as a gift. This is the first waterfall that you will find after about 10 minutes of walking. You can already hear the waterfall falling down in the distance. A beautiful waterfall, but certainly not as impressive as the Tiu Kelep waterfall. That’s why we quickly moved on to the second waterfall.
TIU KELEP WATERFALL
The trip to the Tiu Kelep waterfall is a bit more intensive. You will be at the waterfall in about 40 minutes. You have to climb. You also have to travel through some rivers with sometimes strong currents. A fun and active tour where the sound of the waterfall is getting closer. When the waterfall approaches it is advisable to put on water shoes. You will have to climb slippery rocks and have to go through the water to get as close as possible to the beautiful waterfall. Once arrived you can enjoy the beautiful view, sound and cool water. With a little luck you don’t have to share the waterfall with too many tourists.
Keep in mind that the visit to the waterfall itself takes about 2.5 to 3 hours.
