Thousands of tourists visit the Blue Lagoon for its convenient location near the airport and its worldwide fame. There are several tickets available. There are also a number of things you have to know. Here we share tips for your ultimate visit to the Blue Lagoon.
WHAT IS THE BLUE LAGOON
The Blue Lagoon is one big hot spring in the middle of nowhere. The water is bright blue. The Blue Lagoon owes this color to the reflection of the sun on the purifying substance silica. In addition to silica, the water contains algae and minerals. These elements together make the water curative for skin conditions. Deep underground the temperature is 240 degrees. From reaching the topsoil the water temperature averages 38 degrees. Over the years, the Blue Lagoon has become unmissable for many on the bucket list.
REACHABILITY
The Blue Lagoon is a 20-minute drive from Keflavik Airport. It is a 45-minute drive from the center of Reykjavik to the Blue Lagoon. Don’t have a rental car? Then you can also use the Blue Lagoon shuttle buses. Buses run every hour between the airport and the Blue Lagoon and from Reykjavik to the Blue Lagoon. Are you booking the transfer from Reykjavik? Then you will be picked up and brought to your accommodation. Super handy! Children up to 13 years old are free. From the age of 14 you pay € 39 for a return. It is advisable to book this in time. SOME TIPS
– Reserve your ticket for the Blue Lagoon before your trip
– take at least half a day for it
– bring your own slippers You’ll get a towel there and can be changed
– take off your jewelry! I forgot this. My rings were completely brown with sulfur. Do this also
when you take a shower in Iceland. Fortunately, it is beautiful again after a special dip for jewelry.
silver
– drink enough to prevent dehydration. Tip: go for the strawberry smoothie!
– you can bring your mobile or camera with you in the Blue Lagoon. With the camera you can quickly take some snapshots and then
store it in your safe and reheat yourelf in the water. For your mobile it is useful to bring a waterproof cover
or wrap it in a bag that you can get there for your stuff.
– MYTH: you have to take a shower before entering the Blue Lagoon, but you don’t have to be naked between strangers. There
are closed shower cabins where you can shower
– DO NOT put the sicila mask in your hair and use the free conditioner in the showers. This is to prevent
that your hair looks like a piece of rope for the rest of your trip
– go late afternoon. Most tourist buses left this time. This gives you the opportunity to
to enjoy in peace and to experience the Blue Lagoon in the light and in the dark.
IS THE BLUE LAGOON WORTH IT?
When we researched our trip through Iceland, we noticed that many people wondered whether the Blue Lagoon would be worth it. Because of the enormous fame and the many tourists, the whole atmosphere would be gone. After reading these stories, we have decided that we want to visit the Blue Lagoon. Although it is not a natural hot spring and quite touristy, in our opinion you should have been there. During our visit in September it was not very busy. We had a lot of space for ourselves. It was also quiet at the drinks and mask bar. We spent 4 hours in the Blue Lagoon and would not have missed it. A fun experience that can be off the bucket list. Don’t like the crowds and want to avoid it anyway? Then go more inland to Myvatn.
