Gili is the Indonesian word for island. The best known three are Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air. These islands are in the North between Bali and Lombok. They belong to Lombok. We recommend that you absolutely have to visit the islands in during your trip! All three have their own charm, but still have clear differences. We mention the most important differences.

GILI TRAWANGAN

Gili Trawangan is known as the party island where a pill is regularly swallowed while enjoying a cocktail. The ”Magic Mushrooms” also populair here. Despite the stories, we have chosen to book our stay at Gili Trawangan. Here are most facilities and we also like to party sometimes. It was absolutely better than expected. There are plenty of quiet spots on the island. We stayed in an accommodation in the North of the island calledOceano Jambuluwuk. It was a bit quieter in the North. But there were many restaurants in the area and the well-known Ombak Sunset point can be easily reached by bike. The beaches at Trawangan are beautiful and within 1.5 hours you can cycle around the island.

GILI AIR

Gili Air is the smallest island of the three. You can explore the entire island quickly. Are you only there for 1 day? Then we recommend you to rent a bicycle. Gili Air is a mix of Gili Trawangan & Gili Meno. It is a more quiet, but there are still many trendy restaurants and nice shops to be found. There is a relaxed vibe with some live music in the evening. However, you will see that this is a calmer island than Gili Trawangan.

GILI MENO

Gili Meno is the middle island of the the three and is also the quietest one, even in high season. Do you want to relax and enjoy snorkeling? Then choose Gili Meno. This island is also perfect for a honeymoon. But it is more difficult to find restaurants here. Most of them close their doors early.
