The underwater world is beautiful at the Gili Islands. Snorkeling on this islands is a must do! So don’t forget your snorkeling gear! The most famous inhabitants of the Gili Islands are the sea turtles, but there are also many colored fish.
THE BEST SPOT
We have chosen to stay in the North of the island. This is nearby the best place to spot the turtles! There are many spots on the island. The most you find in the Northeast. On this each there is also a sign with ” Turtle point ”. Can’t be missed. Despite the fact that the turtle spot is even indicated, it was nice and quiet for us for several days. This way we swam for hours in the sea to enjoy the beautiful turtles. In between we were able to relax in peace on the beautiful beach. We snorkeled here for several days and every time we went into the water we were able to admire the sea turtles. Don’t you have much time at Gili Trawangan? Go directly to Turtle Beach.
SNORKELING WITH TURTLES
It is so cool to snorkel with the turtles around you. There are also many different colored fish. Time flies when you float in the water. You can book a snorkel tour from all islands. This takes 8 hours and you will see the most beautiful snorkeling spots around the three of the Gilis. An absolute must do!
Do you want to see more of the underwater world? Then you can do a course at the islands and get your PADI. This costs around € 350 on the Gili Islands.
TURTLE CONSERVATION
Unfortunately, the beautiful sea turtle is not entirely safe and many locals do not want the best for them either. When the sea turtles laid eggs, they are often dug up so that they can be sold at the market. The Turtle Conservation was devised for this. The owners buy these eggs so they won’t be sold at the market. They put the eggs in the private sand where the eggs can hatch. As soon as the baby turtles crawl out of their eggs, they are taken to the shelter, where they are cared for until they are ready to face the large open sea. Then they are released. A wonderful initiative that you can visit and support at Gili Trawangan and Gili Meno.
