In addition to the beautiful beaches, Jamaica offers great tours. Jamaica is a very green and beautiful island. It’s a shame to stay on your beach bed. Go and actively climb a waterfall or bamboo rafting. You can also visit Bob Marley’s birthplace. So many cool possibilities! We have made a list of must do’s during your visit to Jamaica.

FRENCHMAN’S COVE

A little paradise in Port Antonio. Frenchman’s Cove is a beautiful bay where the rough sea plunges onto the surrounding rocks. Very nice to take a dive here. The sea flows into a quiet river that is located in the shade by the jungle environment. This gives a nice effect of hot and cold water. There are swings in this river. Perfect for your Instagram photo! From the swing there is a beautiful view of the sea and the rocks. You can also chill on the snow-white beach with a Red Stripes beer in your hand. In short, a beautiful piece of nature that you should definitely have seen!

DUNN’S RIVER FALLS

A visit to Dunn’s River Falls near Ocho Rios is an absolute must, even though it is a very busy spot. A disadvantage: These waterfalls are a huge tourist attraction. The falls form huge natural steps that can be climbed. To make the climb to the top it is often decided to make a chain of people, where everyone holds each other’s hands. The climb goes over smooth stones while the fresh water splashes down. So be careful! Also go your own way instead of holding the sweaty hands of 2 strangers. There are also sufficient guides available for support. The climb with water shoes is doable and a very beautiful and exciting experience. The climb lasted about fifteen minutes (this also depends on the crowds). You have to wear water shoes here.

THE BLUE LAGOON

A visit to the Blue Lagoon, also located in Port Antonio, can be perfectly combined with Frenchman’s Cove. When we visited the Blue Lagoon it was very quiet. At the entrance to the Blue Lagoon there are many locals who want to help you or sell something to you. Once at the Lagoon you are surrounded by beautiful nature. The water is incredibly blue and wonderfully fresh for swimming or a boat trip. The boat trips can be booked on site and transport you along the many villas that lie along the sea. Many changes in temperature currents in the water provide a special effect. From warm places to particularly cool streams. A number of Hollywood films have also been recorded here. Furthermore, do not expect that there is much to experience, but also this small special paradise on earth is definitely worth a stop.

RIO GRANDE RAFTING

Rafting the Rio Grande with a bamboo raft and a Jamaican captain? Go for it! Unfortunately we had the misfortune that hurricane Matthew had visited Jamaica 2 weeks earlier. That made the entire Rio Grande look brown. We knew this in advance but we still wanted to experience the bamboo rafting. Due to the hurricane, the trips on the Rio Grande have stopped for a month and a half. The captains were eagerly awaiting that day until they were allowed to transport tourists again. With a home-made bamboo raft and a large bamboo pole for paddling you will be transported by the captain in about an hour and a half. Guests may sit on a bench at the back of the raft. The heavy work is done by the captain. In the meantime you can enjoy the river, the jungle environment and the stories of the captain. It is also possible to take over the pole. Only then do you realize that it is no easy job to keep up the pace and your balance.

NINE MILES – BOB MARLEY

Of course you cannot leave Jamaica without a visit Bob Marley’s parental home. Full of expectation we went to Nine Miles where the grave and the house of Bob can be admired. The bus ride to Nine Miles was already an attraction in itself. A beautiful tour through the mountains through sparsely populated areas on winding green roads with the music of Bob Marley on. Upon arrival in Nine Miles we found a number of locals who wanted to sell weed as a tribute to Bob. We declined this, but an old lady in the wheelchair wanted that joint.
The guide told a lot about Bob’s history. For example, how his songs came about, where it was written and what his source of inspiration was.
Bob’s masoleum is of course very impressive to see. 3 rules in here: No photo, no filming, only smoking. All the present locals are as stoned as a shrimp. There is also continuous music and a band to play the hits of Bob Marley. Unfortunately it is all very touristy with lots of shops. If you are well prepared for this, it is absolutely worthwhile and special to visit.
The motto of the day was: Bob lives and you notice that all too well here!
