Tears of joy and sorrow alternate during our bus trip from Banjul airport to our stay. This is really back to basic but oh so beautiful. I don’t know where to look. Laughing and screaming children run in groups after the bus to get a wave back from the tourists. The African women with colored clothing walk along the bumpy road with a bucket on their heads. An old bus full of Gambians comes along and serves as a regular bus. There are 5 goats on the roof of the van. So many impulses come to me during the first encounter with Gambia. Nothing has been manipulated on this country. It is not perfect, far from it. It can be seen as it is. Experience the poverty, joy, beauty and hospitality of The Gambia.
GAMBIA, THE SMILING COAST OF AFRICA
This beautiful destination is rich in nature & culture. The Gambia is proudly nicknamed: “The Smiling Coast of Africa”. This is thanks to the enormous hospitality of the locals who face the day with a big smile every day. In addition, tourism in the Gambia is slowly starting up.

Just a 6-hour flight away with just one hour of time difference in winter, this is a great base for your week’s holiday. With temperatures of 30 degrees, vitamin D will be fine and you can build up a supply. In addition to the wonderful weather, Gambia has so much to offer. Read on quickly!
REAL AFRICA
Never been to Africa? Then you will get a positive culture shock during your visit to The Gambia. It is a developing country and you can really see this. It can happen that you have just rubbed your hair full of shampoo and suddenly no more water comes out of the shower or the light goes out. But this is the charm of the country. Many of our countrymen have started a volunteer project in Gambia because of the poverty that exists. The average income of a Gambian is less than 50 euros per month. Yet they keep smiling and are happy with the smallest things, which is incredibly beautiful to see. This makes you realize everything at such a moment.
Children will ask you for a “minty”. This is a treat for them. It is also recommended to bring “old” clothing or small items such as pens, colored pencils, candy, key chains, you name it. The Gambians are eternally grateful for the smallest things and they will show you. You will never forget of this moment. Beautiful right?
