FOR WHO
Iceland is known for its beautiful nature. Waterfalls, hot springs, rough nature, craters, you name it. Sometimes it seems like you are on another planet Due to its versatile and special nature, this country attracts a huge number of photographers. Many photo trips are organized to Iceland.
Naturelovers will love Iceland too! Hiking through the plenty of national parks while breathing the fresh clean air. Love it!
FLIGHT TIME
Iceland’s international airport is Keflavík. Icelandair flies directly from Amsterdam to Keflavík in 3 hours. This airport is about 40 minutes from Reykjavík. With Icelandair you can also make one free stopover in Keflavík on transit to, for example, Canada.
Transavia is also started with flying to Iceland recently. With this airline you can fly to Keflavík or Akureyi.
BEST TIME
You can visit Iceland every season of the year . Every season has its own wonderful benefits. We choosed for the end of September. This is just after the high season (June, July, August). This makes it a lot quieter. The temperatures are also nice during these days. During our tour it was around 8-12 degrees during the day. In the evening it cooled down. We had 7 days of wonderful sunny weather during the 10 days. This was so nice during the hikes. Unfortunately, this cannot be guaranteed in any season.
In addition, the Northern Lights season starts also in September. We were able to admire this magical show for 4 consecutive evenings.
WHERE TO STAY
Do you have more time to spend and are you not just for a stopover in Iceland? Then we absolutely advise you to book multiple accommodations. We were in Iceland for 10 days and slept in 6 different accommodations in Reykjavík, Vik, Skogar, Höfn, Snaefellsness and near the airport. This way we were able to explore the destination in perfectly. For a good distribution of the nights, read our travel route. All our booked accommodations were amazing! Read here which accommodations we recommend to you to book.
RENT A CAR
To get from one gem to another, a rental car in Iceland is a must. Driving in Iceland is very easy. They drive on the right and the rules are almost the same with The Netherlands. The signage is very clear. In Reykjavík it is a bit busier and the maximum speed is 60 km per hour, but for a capital it is quiet. Once outside Reykjavík, it is even more quiet on the road and the maximum speed is 90 km per hour. There are plenty of gas stations and stop points along the way. If you go off the road (this is only open in the summer months) then a 4 wheel drive is mandatory. For the ring road, a “standard” car is also good. The parking facilities in Iceland are good. You can park almost everywhere for free and there is enough space. At some highlights is payed parking.
We rented our car for Iceland through Sunny Cars. Well arranged, including all every necessary insurances.
